Dentistry for Kids offers toys, books, and games in their waiting rooms to occupy children while they wait for their appointments. Some even have special treatment rooms designed just for kids. A quick phone call can confirm if a dental office has amenities like these and whether they accept children’s dental insurance.
Some participants cited positive self-talk or daydreaming as critical to helping them rationalize the need for and accept invasive procedures, such as dental sealants or the administration of local anesthetic. In addition, the majority of participants sought some degree of information about their health status and/or the rationale for specific treatments from their providers. Lastly, parental presence was a critical factor for some children, especially younger ones and those who were described as “shy”.
